When I taught pre-school, one of the things I did was use food-color to make food the color of focus. I also have a recipe of play-dough and made that the color. Equal parts salt and flour, 1 Tb. of oil, and the food color. You can add peppermint but they’ll eat it. Believe me, I learned that the hard way. As a teacher, I wore the color of focus and encouraged the children to do the same. Each day, they received a token of that color to put in a box decorated with that color. Each day, you might choose a room in the house and point out the focus-color. Then, have them find it the next day. Okay, enough hints from me. Have a colorful time!

Oh, I forgot to tell you to cook the play-dough, stirring constantly until it forms a ball. Place on wax paper and knead until it looks and feels like play-dough. Cool. Store in air tight container.

Hi, Leah…I just wanted you to know that I am so grateful I found your site this morning.

I recently connected with a young girl (28) in Bolgatanga, Ghana while I was there in September.
Her difficult journey, while pregnant and unmarried, landed her in Accra, under the care of some of my friends there who are Theresians (theresians.org). Her name is Dorcas Akonga.
After having her child, Dorcas wanted to return to Bolgatanga to help other young single mothers regain their self-confidence and help educate them. She set up Dakella Youth Mothers Organization.
I am helping Dorcas through college now, and managing fundraising for this group of girls to get an education.
The reason I stumbled on your website is this: Having been given a piece of land, we have decided to build a production centre for the girls who won’t be going to school. They will learn to make shampoo and pomade and market it so that they will have a daily income to feed their children. Most of the children are toddlers right now, so in preparing for the schedule of the workdays, we are including plans for daycare.
These girls have no clue how to begin to teach their children, so being a former teacher myself, (but high school, not toddlers!), i am going to prepare some basic packages for the “teacher” moms to work with. Your site has given me a lot of great insights, and I just wanted to thank you, as I want to bring the spirituality to the lessons…love the Scripture you use…Maribeth

You can go to our “in progress” website to see more on our mission to help the Dakella girls.
    fairtradefriends.org….
(getting ready for a HUGE ABUNDANCE SALE in a week to make money for the production center! wish us luck!)

    Hey Leah,

thank you so much for sharing this lovely article. I will try this with my kids.

  6. Laura

    Hi Leah,
Thanks so much for your faithfulness with this post! I’m wondering if you have continued lessons on the Gospel of John? As far as I can tell, you stopped at verse 8. Am I missing something?

    1. Leah Hudson

      Hi Laura,
No, you aren’t missing anything! I have been so busy building our nest lately that I haven’t gotten back to posting about our John study. But, stay tuned. I am about to release a simple reader I have been working on for the first 7 verses of John 1. Blessings to you!!

  7. Syble Killen

I was wondering if you have done more inductive Bible study on John following 1:1-5 that you can share. Our church (all age groups) is beginning to do the entire book of John verse by verse soon.
    Thank you!

  9. Michele

Hello! I stumbled upon your site while looking for skip counting cards to go along with CC!!! I found them, started printing and ran out of ink, now I can not find the complete set?. Could you please send the link or direct me on where to find the actual download? Thank you for the amazing resources!

    1. Leah Hudson

Hi Michele, I sent you a refreshed link. Blessings to you!

  10. Katie

    Hi Leah,
I wanted to know how you started teaching the Bible. Did you have to get a precept certification? Looking forward to your advice.

    1. Leah Hudson

Hi Katie, There is not a certification I am aware of for Precept teachers, but I did go to a weekend long training session to qualify to be a leader. I hope this helps to answer your question. If you have any more questions, please ask! This is one of my favorite things to talk about!

  11. Jen

Hi! Can I use a credit card instead of paypal?
    Thanks!

    1. Leah Hudson

Hi Jen, I do use PayPal as my payment processing. But when I use it for personal things, I use a credit card. It should be an option when you sign up for PayPal. It doesn’t have fees or anything.

  12. Jen

    I see that option! Thanks!

  13. Leanne

Hi, sweet Leah!!! You are not alone, sister! My house is a mess and my son and my husband are sick with the influenza. We are looking forward to better days, too!! I just received your email regarding artists placemats!!!! I am on board!!! It looks like only two artists are available for purchase now: Thomas Gainsborough and Rembrandt. How can I purchase all six right now? I can’t even express to you the joy that you are bringing to me, my family, and our homeschool by creating these artists placemats!!!! I have all of the Gathering placemats, and they are true beauty!!! Please keep them coming: Gathering placemats, Artists placemats, Composers placemats, Inventors placemats, History placemats (Revolutionary War, WWII, etc.), Geography placemats, and Unit Study placemats (Amelia Earhart, Elizabeth Blackwell, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, etc.) The possibilities are endless!!! Thank you, Leanne 🙂

    1. Leah Hudson

This is such an awesome encouragement to me, Leanne! The Artist Mats are coming out quickly! They all should be available in the next couple of weeks. And yes…lots of potential for these mats! What a blessing that there is someone on the same page as me! 🙂

How can I print out these studies

    1. Leah Hudson

I am not sure which studies you are referring to. Can you be more specific?

  15. katelin Peters

    Hello,

I am really struggling to figure out how to see up-close samples of your CC placemats! Could you please help?

    1. Leah Hudson

You can get an up close view when you subscribe to get updates. That gives you all access to my Subscriber Exclusive Library where you can get free samples of the placemats. If you need any more help getting a look at those, please let me know!

  16. Rosemary Grabowski

  18. Lara Snyder

    Hi!

We did the Gathering ‘menus’ last summer and loved them! Will you be doing them for the 2020/21 school term?

In the meantime, I was going to piece together some menus for August. Is the ‘bird’ gathering set the only one available now? I was looking for the free ones first 🙂

    1. Leah Hudson

Hi Lara, I am so glad to hear they were a blessing to you! I AM currently working on the new school year ones. Yes, currently the only “paid” one available is Birds. But there are two Subscriber Exclusive sets available for subscribers to my blog. There is a preschool set and another one. Are you currently a subscriber?
I plan to have the new sets of Gathering placemats available in mid August. And they are shaping up nicely. I am also hoping to have LOTS more resources in the coming months. Stay tuned!

      1. DianaF

        Hi, Leah!
We are new to your placemats having only recently heard about them from a friend. Will you come out with the entire school year to be bought as a package or are they only available monthly?

        1. Leah Hudson

Hi Diana, so glad to hear the word got to you! Yes, I will be releasing the entire school year (as well as season packs) within the next week or so! In the meantime, there are free sets available in the Subscriber Exclusive Library. I also have a couple of sets that are nature study in the shop. Thanks for reaching out with your question!

  19. Shirley Buzzoni

Hi Leah, I’m also a long time inductive girl (grammy) having taught Ephesians to my granddaughters 11 & 13 last school year, and I would like to use your material on the Gospel of John this year (I homeschool my granddaughters). I think your study goes to chapter 2. Have yo done more? If so, I’d love a link to it – it would be so helpful to follow your plan. Thank you!

    1. Leah Hudson

Yea! I love to meet new Bible study friends! I wish there was more to this study. We get so busy during the year with Awana memory verses that I haven’t figured out a way to be consistent. I do have more to write up and I need to get back to it. Thanks for your question. So nice to meet you!
